The Strongest Battlegrounds Ultimate Combos and Awakening Routes
Spend G on purpose—convert meter into round-winning damage, not panic presses.
Ultimate mode (awakening) is the biggest swing resource in The Strongest Battlegrounds. Fill the meter by dealing damage, press G when it is ready, and your kit transforms: stronger skills, altered movement, and—on most characters—about forty-five seconds of empowered play before the meter empties. Strongest Hero follows special rules for duration and healing, so never copy-paste another character’s spend habits onto Saitama without checking.
This guide focuses on how to convert ultimate, not a move-by-move dump for every kit. Pair it with One-Shot Combos, Wall Combo Guide, and Getting Started for the shared foundation.
Meter economy before you press G
Ultimate is not a panic heal button for every character. Many kits fully heal on awaken; Strongest Hero and some others do not play that game the same way—Hero often heals through landing moves instead of a free top-off on press. If you awaken at full HP with no confirm, you may waste the only timer that turns a slight lead into a round win.
Better spend conditions:
- You already have a knockdown, wall confirm, or hard stun.
- Opponent’s Burst is empty or on cooldown in team contexts (Burst Guide).
- You need invulnerability/armor frames on awaken to beat a trade (most kits gain protection on activate; Strongest Hero’s rules differ and can pierce certain defenses—respect that matchup).
- The round is first-to-two ranked and one solid convert closes it (How to Play Ranked).
Worse spend conditions: mashing G while you are already losing neutral midstage with no hit confirm, or awakening solely to “look busy” in a public pileup.
The ultimate cancel idea
A high-value pattern across the roster: activate, land the first empowered hit, cancel into M1s or a practiced string. That stacks awakening damage with the universal 3% + 3% + 4% + 5% chain and keeps stun sticky. From there, branch into:
- Wall module for +12% if a surface is available.
- Empowered specials that only exist in ultimate.
- Safe ender into knockdown so they cannot instantly reclaim turn.
Lab the cancel on your main until the first hit into M1 is automatic. The embedded video mid-article shows pacing; your job is to recreate it without watching your keyboard.
Forty-five seconds is a clock, not a vibe
Most awakenings drain in roughly forty-five seconds whether you are productive or not. Strongest Hero (and certain kits like KJ in community notes) can behave differently—sometimes lasting while you avoid dumping moves. Play the clock:
- Open with a confirm, not a speculative poke if your awaken animation is punishable.
- Convert early while the opponent is still adjusting to the new moveset.
- Threaten with empowered space control if they refuse to challenge.
- Close before the meter dies mid-string; a half-finished ultimate combo that drops into base kit often loses the trade.
If FPS tanks during ultimate particle spam, fix settings on Settings and FPS so you can actually see the cancel window.
Matchup and interaction awareness
Ultimate near another ultimate can trigger special Character Interactions—for example, Strongest Hero and Destructive Cyborg duel animations when both awaken close together. Those cutscenes change timing and can steal your planned cancel. Learn the common pairs for your main so you do not press G into a scripted pause you did not want.
Also respect invulnerability states: many grabs and awakens grant complete or semi-invincibility. Strongest Hero ultimate is known for ignoring certain invulnerability layers that stop other kits. That is why “just awaken to armor through Saitama” fails—adjust defense and disengage plans instead.
Building an ultimate route (template)
- Confirm hit or knockdown in base kit.
- Press G (or press G as the confirm if your character’s awaken itself hits).
- Cancel opener into M1 glue.
- Empowered special 1 that stays true.
- Optional wall convert.
- Empowered special 2 or lethal ender.
- If meter remains, zone with leftover tools instead of greeding a droppable juggle.
Write button names for your character into that list. Cross-check the Tier List only after the route works; tier labels do not replace execution.
Team modes vs 1v1
In free-for-all, long ultimate cinematics paint a target on you. Prefer short, lethal converts and be ready to Burst if two players collapse. In 1v1 ranked, you can play the full forty-five-second plan: corner carry, wall, empowered string, reset threat.
Practice checklist
- Fill meter on dummies or a friend without spending randomly.
- Ten successful awaken-into-M1 cancels.
- Five wall converts during ultimate.
- Five intentional “save meter” rounds where you refuse bad G presses.
- One session reviewing Controls if G conflicts with other habits.
Between sets, skim Codes and Players for inspiration, then return to the lab. The Guides Hub lists the surrounding syllabus if you need defense or ranked structure next.
Ultimate combos win rounds when meter is a decision, not a reflex. Confirm, cancel, wall when possible, and respect Strongest Hero’s special meter rules whenever that kit is in the lobby.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for combat, codes, and ranked play.
How do I activate ultimate?
Fill the meter by dealing damage, then press G. Most awakenings last about 45 seconds; Strongest Hero uses special meter and heal rules.
What is an ultimate cancel?
Activate awakening, land the first empowered hit, then cancel into M1s or a practiced string to stack damage in one locked window.
Should I always awaken at full meter immediately?
No. Save G for confirms, knockdowns, or round-closing moments—especially in first-to-two ranked sets.
Do all characters heal on ultimate?
Many do, but Strongest Hero is a notable exception with different heal behavior. Learn your kit before relying on a free top-off.
Why did an interaction cutscene appear?
Some character pairs trigger unique animations when ultimates or specific skills meet. Study the interactions guide for common pairs.
